Question #1:

ATTN: Perfumers / Noses / Aromatherapists & Lay people that might know?

ATTN: All Perfumers / Noses / Aromatherapists & Lay people that might know
I fell in love with this perfume recipe from one of my favorite books called "the secret circle" by L.J. Smith and in this book there is a witch that wears a perfume descried as "magnetic perfume " and it is made of
Tuberose
Ylang-Ylang
&
Mignonette aka (Reseda oderata) or (Reseda Oil)
I have been dying to recreate it so that I can smell it but,
I cant seem to find Mignonette oil aka (reseda oil) any where ! I have also searched for mignonette absolute or just perfumers oil &...nothing.
I have checked Just about everywhere including online. I have never been particularly great at online research so it is possible that I could have just not come acrossed it or over looked it but, I have searched several times.
If anyone could tell me where to get it, that would be great
Thanks
Julzy - thank you I appreciate your input. Unfortunately the book did not specify & I have checked almost all if not all of my local resources. I may have to grow my own and go from there. The only problem with that is that, I have read that this flower does not produce a lot of oil so it is difficult to extract the fragrance from this flower.
I will keep trying all avenues possible In the hopes of getting something.
Thanks
COA -Thank you very much I will try them
Safÿre- Thank you as well.
I appreciate your effort.

Question #3:

Where do I obtain 'alcohol' in order to make a perfume for myself?

Hi
I bought a lavendar perfume homemade from a craft fair in a simple bottle. The ingredients on the back just say ''Lavendar, alcohol, water'' - I am wanting to recreate whats it the bottle as I love the smell of it, and it also helps with my migraines and helping me get to sleep. I'm assuming the lavendar is from a bottle of pure essential oil, the water I'm fine with, what sort of alcohol do I need and where can I purchase it ? I'm also assuming it isn't the same type of alcohol as the stuff you drink. Thanks for any replies :-)

Question #5:

What do you people think of my ramblings? Please be cynical as required :)?

And here he could feel it spiraling out of him---the need to create.
He felt the smoothness of the pen through his gloves and imagined that the ink was flowing like blood through his veins, out of his wrists like a cutter and out onto the blank whiteness of the page.
He wrote two words, and then stopped.

It felt right, there, with the pen in his hand, but the emptiness of the room made him weak and gasping for air. He ran to the window and dashed his fingers against the clutch again and again until the glass unyieldingly swung open.

He thrust his face through the opening and let the air come rushing into his lungs, with all the smog and smoke and noise of the city. Here, with the clashing of the cars and people about his ears, he could rest.

It made his soul feel alive, like oxygen for his soul. Nothing had ever understood him quite the way that confusion could. When he was a boy, in all the crisp blueness of his room, his mother, who was a nurse, would swathe his senses in the dull smells of disinfectant and iodine, lavender and cotton. When she tucked him in on Sunday nights the faint scent of freesias lingered about her, from the bouquets she left on his grandfather’s grave.

He imagined that was what heaven smelt like, and was deathly afraid.

In church he listened to the preacher groaning on and on about brimstone and hellfire, and imagined the pungent smell of brimstone and smoke wafting about his ears.

After school he would thrust his fingers into the mud of the football field and smell all the earthy muskiness of decay. When he visited his friend’s house, he smelled sweat and oil and grease on his friend’s mother, who was a fry chief, and hugged her so tight that she had to bribe his friend with cookies to drag him off of her, laughing good-naturedly as she did so. Sometimes, when he couldn’t sleep, he still imagined those greasy yellow vapors writhing through the air as he clung tightly to her plump, sweating body.

When he was fourteen, he hid underneath his covers with a pen every night, and scribbled unintelligible stories into an old notebook. Those early attempts at creation were his escape from the bland, sanitary world in which he so often found himself.

When he was in college, he built about him a pretentious air, sitting in classes like so many before him had, tightly upright with every muscle in his body frozen into place. He pretended to listen attentively, but really his senses were reeling with smells of food and flowers, coffee and perfume and old dust and mold.
His least favorite person was the librarian, because she smelled like cough syrup.

Even as his memory danced about his ears, his hand was froze into position, fingers gripping his pen.
He reached forward and drew the thin sheet of paper towards him.

Just as the tip of his frozen pen brushed it, he heard another, softer noise, echoed against slender doors and dirty walls. Without another thought, he slipped the pen into his pocket and slid out of his chair.
Down three flights of stairs, his feet thrumming like drums, and out onto the landing before the exit.

Outside was the world, colorful and lonely and troublesome.

Phillip’s hand went against the door and his heart seemed to beat more slowly, to become heavy like the weight of a lead bullet in his breast-pocket. In that friction of an instant, just before the door opened and the fear in his mind slid like cold cabbage soup into his belly, a word broke that fly-trap like it was a stone.

“Wait,”
The voice said.

Phillip turned around, slowly, as not to disturb the fleas that were nesting under his feet. He did not speak. Neither did the boy, who stared at him with large, round, luminous eyes. A teardrop ran from one of them like liquid silver.

There was no tenseness in this silence. It flowed between them like it was the soft heat from a fire.
Phillip’s foot twitched.

The boy moved towards him, slowly, as if he was approaching a spider. Another tear crawled from his eye and pooled on the side of his face.

Phillip stood stock-still.

“What are you thinking about?” said the boy.

“Lampshades,” said Phillip. “I’m thinking about lampshades.”

“Oh,” his hands moved a little.

And then the boy lunged for him and threw himself, sobbing, into the fabric of his trouser-leg.
“Come here,” said Phillip. “come here.”

The tears were making tracks in the cloth. He imagined that they were running into the carpet and soaking it, like a target.
“What are you thinking about?” asked Phillip.
The boy’s sobs quieted.
“Not lampshades,” he whispered.

Question #7:

What do you think of the very beginning of my story?

I'm writing a book and this is beginning of the first chapter :) There's a prologue so you might be a bit confused, but don't worry haha. I was wondering if you could tell me what you think, if its good bad.Too much detail, too little detail. Haha I kind of want you to rip this apart and tell me what I can do to make it better :) I just ask that you're respectful....Thank you!!!

“Avalina, you lazy girl, come and clean this mess!” screeched an agitated voice from downstairs.
I grit my teeth together and hiss to myself, “It’s Ava…” I don’t want to respond to that awful, squeaky voice, but I know it will keep me out of trouble.
“Yes, Lady Hester. I’ll be down in a moment,” I say with false enthusiasm.
Only an hour longer until Agatha is back and then I’ll be saved. I keep telling myself this as I smooth out my apron and trudge down the creaking, wooden stairs. Just do what the awful Witch says. You’ll thank yourself later. I repeat it over and over in my head.
If only she was a witch. That way she would be burned at the stake and away from me forever. I would be free of the tedious chores and tasks I was forced to do every day. Maybe I would meet a nice boy and run away with him. Every day would be an unexpected adventure. But, unfortunately, I could do nothing but dream…
I walk briskly into the main room of the small manor to see Lady Hester and her two dreadful daughters staring at me with wicked glances. Lady Hester’s is the worst. Her eyes are green like snake’s venom only much more poisonous. Her mousy brown hair is slick with oils and perfumes that she insists on having. It wreaks of overly ripe fruits and flowers that sting my eyes and burn my throat when I breath them in. She tries to disguise the pungent scent of her own body, but in my opinion, the perfumes only make her smell worse.

Question #13:

Are "Elegant Expressions" fragrance oils safe for perfume-making?

They say not to allow contact with skin which makes me think "not safe", but I guess I don't know if putting it in alcohol would change this. Guess I can test it on myself.. but I'd rather not turn angry red.

Question #14:

What do I need to add to my essential oils to make the scent last on my skin?

I purchased some high quality pure essential oils with the intent to make my own perfume oil. I added the oils to a carrier oil (DPG), so the blend is 50% pure essential oil and 50% carrier oil. According to what I understand, this blend should last longer than commercial perfume because it lacks the alcohol that dilutes the scent. However- the essential oil blend fades FAST: In about a half hour it can't be smelled anymore. (Not just by me, but by friends that I randomly ask to smell my arm.)
So as for my questions: Do I need to add anything to stabilize the scent to make it last? What do I need to add? Any recommendations on where to get it?
Thanks!
